been driving class 2 for 5 yrs, had my class 1 a month or so, tomorrow is the big day, i think ill be ok im just going to take it slow and carefull, any advice or tips anyone has that may help be not be so stressed about it ? cheerssssssssssss
Just find a gear, drag it out the yard and dont hit anything, that was the advice i got given
Not sure if they teach it these days, but nobody taught us about the trailer suspension.
It’s usually the back corner of the trailer, a lever goes forward for raise, back for low, pull out for auto / running height.
Other than that, run it as you did on your test and have fun

Just find a gear
And don’t change up until you are well and truly out of earshot!
Learn by doing!
just take your time get to know how your gears work give your self plenty of room when turning on tight corners.and when reversing don’t worry who is watching, waiting if it takes one, two, three, four go’s don’t worry about it we all had to do it.don’t take risks plan your route before you leave.
If you’ve got a question, ASK!
You might feel like a fanny for being the ‘new boy’ at driving a C1, but you will be respected a lot more for just asking.
As an example, the first night I was out in a C1 myself I was in at the deep end. I was thrown into a huge RDC, ■■■■■■■ rain, new unit, and ended up trying to do a blind reverse and being (politely) bollocked at for doing so, but all you do is ask advice and suddenly you’ve made a friend.
Shunters…well - They’re all the same!
Take your time, be honest about how new you are to this, ask questions if you are unclear about anything, get help if you when you are reversing if you think there may be a chance of hitting anything, especially if you are blindsiding.
Dont do anything you are uncomfortable with, most drivers out there will be helpful, if not they’re the idiot not you.
Above all enjoy yourself, you’re a king of the road (just dont break anything)

This i agree with - i would rather answer the phone to a new driver every hour than have a £2-300 bill because he didn’t ask - if you don’t know ask - write down the answer then you don’t have to ask the same question again
cheers

If I go to a customers premises I tell security etc. that I it’s my first visit and normally they are very helpful. If in doubt ask, it is always quicker than sorting out a mistake.
You should spend the rest of your career learning, make notes if you need to, you cant remember everything at first but it will gradually fall into place.
Finally good luck and enjoy yourself, it makes the days go better.
Nothing much to add to that, but you’ll be running on adrenaline, you’ll be more alert than you’ve been for a while, in a couple of days you’ll be wondering why you worked yourself into a state.
Good luck, and by the way don’t hit anything!

Get out and look if unsure what room you have when reversing. If you think on lookers will laugh at you for doing so don’t worry about it as they will laugh all the harder if you hit something. Enjoy it and hope all goes well for you.
1 - Take things steadily
2 - Never be afraid to ask
3 - When customers say “Don’t worry drive, we’ve had bigger than that in here” they’re not always telling the truth.
4 - Never drive in somewhere you can’t reverse out of
5 - Never be surprised at just what car drivers will do just to get in front of you.
Oh, and …
6 - If you ever have the misfortune to have a trip to Amazon in Swansea, remember, not all drops are this bad.
Are all Amazon places the same? I would rather have haemoroids( piles) than go back to their dump at Glenrothes.
Enjoy it.
That’s all.
Good luck and take your time
You will be grinning like a Cheshire cat
Whenever you overtake a Tesco truck, make sure you give them the finger salute, they love that!
dont worry about any one else on the road, your big there not, take the time you need not what they need

In Swansea, they make you reverse down a slope onto a bay, put a wheel chock on, an airlock on, make you sit in the drivers pen, sorry, reception while your keys are with the goods in pillock. They have a refusal list as long as my arm. It’s pathetic.
