Parked in a layby on the A500 on Friday, I just happened to notice that no one has “Long Vehicle” reflective boards anymore.
Were they once a legal requirement that has ceased to be, or were they just the norm many moons ago?

Yes, by Law they used to have the words “Long Vehicle” on them but the Law changed about 15 years ago so they no longer had to. I’m not sure if one would be legal nowadays or not.
Isn’t it strange how things change but you never really notice. Like wearing a seat belt in a car. That came in when I was 7 and I remember my dad moaning like buggery (yes he was a trucker too) about them, yet now, we all just take it as normal.
Dachshund drawings are no longer required either
What about the “Motorway Maintenance” boards on the back of tippers?

What about the “Motorway Maintenance” boards on the back of tippers?
These days it’s either “Highway Mantenance” or “Do Not Push”
I once saw a British truck in France with B@st@rdo - longo on the two boards on his trailer…It made me laugh at the time

AIUI they wouldn’t as they don’t conform to the higher reflective standards.

There’s aren’t many that do if it’s on a tipper or tractor
