New job and some advice please

Well folks…some good news

Been for an interview this morning and have only gone and got myself a new job (not bad in an area that is a bit “dry” for LGV jobs)

Start next Monday…first job of the day is my hi-ab ticket.

Basically I will be on a brick/block lorry…wag and drag (1st time since my test  )

Now for the advice bit

I’ve never done this type of work before so I am after any advice/tips for doing the job. Also any insight as to what this type of work involves.
I know there is a few on here who do this type of work and will be able to fill me in

Thanks

Stuart

congrats stuart it be a huge releif for ya n good luck with your hiab ticket

Hi mate i deliver to loads of building sites, only bit of advice i can really offer is never get on the wrong side of a Banksman/Slinger, as just when the jobs finished and you think you never have to see them again, They pitch up at a new building site.

Congrats on the new job and good luck

Owen

well done stuart congrats on the job. i did 8 month on class 2 and class 1 a few years ago driving on contract for marshalls blocks kerbs flags etc. i took a hiab crash course to get my hiab ticket and that ticket got me the job. it can be a bit daunting at first on the crane there are different ways and tricks for picking things up but as long as you dont panick and think about what your doing you will be alright…first tip…dont drive off with your stabalizer legs down  easily done. building sites are the biggest headach they allways want you in the tightest spot get used to hearing “well weve had cement mixers down there driver” thats the usuall script even when youve got 40 foot behind you. dont let them bully you when on site especially the flaggers/kerbers. if for example there flagging paths theyll want you to drop individuall packs in different gardens can be a ball ache keep lifting legs moving truck. best advice is dont panic take your time and be confident.,

Hi Stu,

So what was up with the highly paid job you used to do■■? :grimacing:

Would I be right in thinking you’ll be driving a large green wagon now?

I’ll keep an eye out for you!

just remember to put the arm down when you have finished unloading trust me you will only leave up once like i did

always watch out for phonelines. i have tweaked a few in the past. good luck in the new job

Well done on getting the job. I drive a W&D on bricks and blocks to sites and merchants, one bit of advice is to just take your time and you WILL get better and quicker with time. Oh and watch out for power cables…above you

and dont put the stabalizer legs on top of manhole/draincovers as you might break through

Congrats on the new job, is this with Evans Transport? Noticed they got some new MAN wagon and drags going about. I do a few runs into Cornwall and Bristol so give us a wave if you see us

Not much to the job other than delivering to sites or merchants, you’ll get some tight ones with a W+D but that’s what they’re made for, and you can always drop the trailer if it’s too tight. Take it easy with the crane til you get used to it.
