It has been 25 years since the miners strike and there has been alot of coverage on the tv and in the papers. The pictures of trucks with wire mesh over all the windows and windscreen, being attacked with bricks, wood and sometimes petrol bombs as they crossed the picket lines to the pits.
So it got me thinking…Would you cross a picket line?
Regards.
would depend on wether i agreed with the principles of the strike
i doubt whether factory workers would support a lorry driver over parking on site after being held up
or getting an urgent delivery to site over his hours
(me to get to Nissan 14.5 hours 45mins to tip wanted to park in trailer park but had to drive to Birtly so bloody well over hours)
No as long as the strike was official…
If someone who is supposed to be my “Brother” can put my life at risk with missiles & bricks, why not?
I put the union leaders in the same pot as Sir Fred Goodwin.
Another Question, would you give up your pension pot?
No, Not ever.
We are overwelmed by rules and regulations because the government know that this country is full of spineless tossers who don’t care about their fellow workers.
If more people stuck together no matter weather it directly affects you or not, Then the rule makers would think twice about upsetting anyone.
OFFICIAL line NO,
no i think its about time we all stood together as a nation and then PERHAPS someone would listien but alas some people who dont give as much as us dont understand all we want is a decent living and decent facilitys rant over still cant spell its not me its the keyboard moving the letters ■■?
No
NO.
2yrs ago we walked out because a collegue got suspended as he would’nt cross a picket line. we were out for 2 weeks and we didnt go back till
1.THE DRIVER WAS REINSTATED.
2. WE GOT BETTER CONDITIONS THAT WE’D BEEN ARGUING ABOUT FOR ALONG TIME.
I lost £1500 for those 2 weeks off which you can never get back but in the long run its worth it.The management thought we’d backdown but we proved them wrong.
We did have a few scabs but you’ll always get them.
Even the regular agency drivers would’nt walk through, although there were a few that did and when we went back those few agency drivers that did cross it did’nt work at our place anymore so in the long run they lost out.
I can understand that people have bills to pay but like previously stated the government and management know that people wont put down tools so they try to take the pee out of you.
So no I would’nt walk or drive through one
The Company I used to work for always said to us NEVER cross a picket line. That was until I was faced with a picket line at Redditch many years ago. A Policeman & one of the pickets came up to me & told me all what was going on & said it was UNOFFICIAL. So I ring the boss he said cross it, so my reply was you said any picket line. This went on in the end I went to the gatehouse & said I have got to cross the picket line. I made thee xcuse I have a four wheeled drag which I needed to turn around with in the yard.
So in I goes. I have never heard such Z/B ing & anger as I was getting when they found out I was going to unload. When I’d finished unloading the Policeman said once the gates are open GO & dont stop.
They were like a pack of angry animals, now whether that was only to scare me I dont know BUT I must say it did. Oh & I got band from Halfords Depot.
Little do they know I still go in the shops.
I’m working class and always will be. Crossing a picket line helps the “Sir Fred Goodwins” of this world to keep the working man in his place. If you feel pride in helping the likes of that then you’re a sorry excuse for a man.
Yes I would I need a wage at the end of the week/month principles or not number one comes first.
Striking never won a thing and it never will i was in a union for a short period and they are totally worthless.
No in this day and age there will be a good reason why they are out

I would agree and disagree.the union is only as good as its members.it also depends on how good the steward is at local level.Yes there are some that aint worth a toss but there are others that are worth there weight in gold.
No i wouldnt cross a picket line, in all honesty mostly for my own safety than anything else people have long memories.
I’d decline the job or at least thoroughly debate the ethics of the run from the TM/clerk if I knew that a picket line was in place before leaving or by phone as soon as I learned of it …but how many of us would know or be told in advance?
A firm knowingly putting a driver on the spot with such a loyalty dilemma wouldn’t be my idea of decent …but neither is unilaterally returning with his load having spent his fuel/tyre/wage budget.
Crossed one last week outside our depot (it was the civil service union on a one day national protest) as did everyone else, as we were told by our union to cross it So much for union solidarnosc
Yes, know one tells me what to do “only my wife and boss”
No, never…
i dont know till the time comes and then il make up my mind.
the problem is people expect you to help them and stand by them but when its your turn they all look the other way.
