My name’s Charlotte, I work for the UK Parliament to assist MPs and Peers by engaging the public with their debates. On 4 March, Lord Taylor of Holbeach is leading a debate in the House of Lords on support for hauliers transporting goods internationally.
He wants to hear from those working in the industry to understand their experiences of the issues.
We’ve created a brief survey This survey link is invalid or no longer available asking two questions about how the pandemic has impacted the industry, and what should be done to support it. We wanted to invite your members and/or audience to share their experiences, in order to inform the case Lord Taylor puts to a Government minister.
Would you be willing to share the survey with your members so they could contribute in this way? It would be great if you could post this on your forum.
The responses we get will be put into a brief for Lord Taylor to help him prepare for his debate, and he has signalled a willingness to quote contributors’ stories directly in the House of Lords.

We’ve found this to be a very effective way to engage the public with the work of Parliament and democracy.

I’m not sure the pandemic will have had so much of a long term impact, more of a blip. For instance I got stopped from going over in March last year because of travel bans and how quickly situations changed so it wasn’t deemed safe enough, but now there’s protocols in place and goods have been moving we’ve still not returned and likely won’t be returning with my lot saying that the “hassle with borders and stuff after Brexit” takes most if not all the profit and potentially makes a trip loss leading so I’m not sure my personal perspective can help with the survey.

If youve had work altered or lost for safety concerns, then surely that is of interest to the survey takers? If you consider this is only a temporary instance, as it might be, then that doesnt mean it won`t be of value in planning for any future, as yet unseen, incident.

Obviously I have no idea if Charlotte is transgender, but assuming she is cis-gender, the purpose of cis people stating their personal pronouns like this is to make trans people feel more comfortable stating theirs without it being like a giant badge saying “HEY EVERYBODY, I’M TRANS!”
I know the majority (or at least the vocal majority) on here lean towards the conservative end of the political spectrum and struggle with progress, but personally I’m all for anything that can help marginalised people feel less…errr… marginalised!

I agree. I’m not the type of guy to call a trans women a man. I would use the pronouns they want to be known as.
Best of luck to those people who have a particular issue with personal pronouns, the problem is though that the more the issue develops, the more likely it is to become a topic of humour, which is going to upset them even more.
My son (13) and his friends have for ages been making big jokes about “Identifying as an attack helicopter”, originally I though it was some mad early-teenage joke peculiar to him and his mates, but apparently “it’s a thing”.
Meanwhile schools have mandatory “lessons” on “how best to celebrate LGBTQA+ lifestyles”
My parents worried about me breaking windows and trespassing on the railway, that seems preferable to worrying about your kid being accused of whatever-the-latest-word-is-for homophobia

That is pretty amusing. Although I suppose it does mock the plight of people who are not in the traditional gender categories.
I wouldnt call it homophobia though.
I think the issue is a lot of people just dont understand how gender can be a subjective social construct. For most people your either a man or a women.
Even if you decide to change your ■■■ you are still changing it to the opposite ■■■. There are those who identify as inanimate objects or other species… It is hard to understand.
