In Sun today , I don’t think that hourly rate is correct, think it
Includes meal allowance .
But may just help those who have no
Income for a month or three at these difficult times
Go on then Doze, I will have a quick bite (Feel sorry for you that no one is responding to you )
The £11.60 is the ‘equivalent’ wage for a weekday driver 06.00-18.00. £9 per hour basic plus £15.00 per day tax free meal allowance. If you did an 8hr day it’s pretty accurate to be fair. Where it falls down is if you do a 10 hour day for instance.
Let’s roughly say the £15 allowance is £20 (Gross equivalent), that works out at £2 per hour, so we are now only looking at £11 per hour. Any work after 18.00 is paid at £9.97 per hour, not great but in fairness there are not many general hauliers that pay anything other than a straight through rate. There is a months full pay sick (after 12 months service) and they do other things like pay for CPC, card renewal, medicals etc.
The green excellence get many (often justified) negatives but the pay & benefits are much better than most general hauliers (certainly in the North West). Given the size of fleet and the lower price of diesel, along with an increased work load with supermarkets I think this corona virus is going to save ESL. Bizarre how fortunes can change, it was only a couple of months ago ESL were on the brink of collapse!

I have to agree. I could never fault them when I worked for them.
I also think that they’ll be lurking under the water like green crocodiles, waiting for smaller firms to either go bust, or downsize. Ready at a moments notice to clasp their jaws around newly vacated contracts.
Or, they could put in ridiculously low quotes for work. This would wipe out competition who can’t compete, and in this current environment could very well lead to rivals going bust. I’m sure they could even operate at losses, as having less competition in the future is one thing, and keeping their wagons and drivers on the road, as opposed to furlough is another. So in a couple of months time, there may be considerably less competition, and they can start upping the rates with no worry of being undercut.
They have the size, wagons, trailers, and staff to wipe out a lot of competition in the coming couple of months. And the financiers will know it.
I think Stobarts could very well be the place to be. And sadly, a lot of folk who sledge them, and are currently sat at home drinking beer and watching Bargain Hunt with a grin on their face whilst on furlough, might see their family-run employer and it’s tasselled-curtained wagons being taken away by the administrators very soon. And they may find themselves filling out an ESL application form…
It’s nothing more than trying to help the drivers
Who have lost there job , have no income etc
Nothing more , nothing less
Dear me you can’t try to offer help on here without having some ulterior motive
I buy & put £5 worth of cat / kitten food into
The rock cat / kitten sanctuary dustbin for
Food donations every week , why because I’ve no
Pets & the poor little souls have no-one
To look after them other than the women
Who looks afte them & donations from folks
I don’t ask for thanks , I don’t want thanks , just
The thought they get a decent meal is good
Enough for me
My mrs to this day still has that look of
Why & what’s he upto doing this , it’s
Doesn’t come over in my character as
Being someone who cares about anyone other
Than myself
We’ve all a heart & if a job helps any drivers
Really struggling I’ll post it up , as I will
Put a £5 worth of cat food into the cat sanctuary dustbin
Nb I also serviced / mot the daughters car at £319 , taxes her car at apx £140, I
Also told ring your dad if you struggle for
Money , she’s fine , nurse , but her boyfriend
Is furoged off , so it’s the time those reasonably ok , help
Those who arnt
As I say the op was just to help those who arnt so well off
And maybe have no income , nothing more , nothing less
Requirement to pass a basic DBS check! can’t be in that much of a rush to get drivers, it takes more than a few days to get one of them done.

Do you not think the Corona virus to think about is bad enough.
Besides I’ve never suited green.

Txt received 9.15 am sun
Good morning , is anyone available to work in ———- with a 10 am start
Asking for drivers 45 mins before a shift start time suggests they do need drivers and like yesterday

No it’s not. Its Stobratski up to old tricks. Stobart are going round, undercutting what work is left over at the moment, that will see a fair few smaller businesses fold. Nothing new there.
But as before, Stobratski will not be able to make it pay, and planning will again screw up major contract logistics.
Stobart wont survive this, but it’s not meant to. The eventual pre-pack is already sorted out, and whoever’s takes Stobart over (rumours about WS may or may not be true…), gets all that work, with no debts, and far less competition to worry about…
But you keep believing that Stobratski has your best interests at heart…

To add to your rumour , ha ha
Rumour has it that all ESL recruitment is on hold, due to the coronavirus slowdown. Same with Stobart Biomass. So as of now, the Stobart door is closed. I’m guessing they’ll keep leaning towards the bulk of their drivers being agency. That way, when times are quiet, if they don’t need them, they don’t call them.
