Breaking the vehicle speed limit

I am interested to know if any forum members have been prosecuted/issued a fixed penalty notice when driving a truck for breaking the vehicle speed limit where the national speed limit only was in force.

As some will know, here in Scotland we still have ‘the old speed limits’ (40/50) for single/dual carriageways. It does hack me off to see lorries continually breaking these but wonder if there is some unofficial blind eye turning going on, [though the jock enforcement authorities are not renowned for ignoring rules].

I am told certain speed cameras cannot (or maybe that should be ‘are not set up to’) differentiate between trucks, buses/coaches and cars so on the A9 Stirling to Perth for instance trucks happily do 56mph instead of the statutory 50mph. So as an agency wallah paid by the hour why should I speed.

On the odd occasion I’ve been down to England - but not on the motorway - I must admit the ‘new’ limits are much better. On the A1 the traffic flows much better and it is a PITA when north of Berwick on the single carriageway sections under Scottish limits.

As far as I’m aware there’s no fixed camera that can differentiate between different vehicle types. But a police officer with a speed gun can. Especially if he’s on a mission that day to focus on speeding trucks.

The camera at the belfry on the A446 could tell what’s what back when it was 40 for lorries ,it was a Gatso back then .

Seem to remember the cameras on the A68 could also differentiate between vehicle types too.

So it hacks you off when trucks speed and help the traffic flow, you staunchly do the opposite yet when in England you praise the limit for helping traffic flow?

I will second that, Dan - also the cameras on the road between Clowne and Worksop can differentiate between cars and lorries, both experienced by former colleagues I hasten to add.

Plus the one at brookfoot A9

And the one (that is no longer there) on the A5 near Mira at Nuneaton. I had the Fixed Penalty and points to prove it - 47mph where the signposted limit was 50mph.

this subject really ■■■■■■ me off, why cant you stick to the speed limit ?. you are supposed to be proffesional drivers, and the time you save is minimal.

Because: quicker you get done the quicker you get finished. Delays, more time at home, more pay etc etc etc …

wrong.the time you save is phenomenal…hence the number of drivers who quite happily ignore all speed limits and crack on to suit themselves.

It’s all inbuilt to the unit, it works on the height, and length.

What laws do you break then - C&U, drink/drugs and driving, mobile phone?

The difference is the law is different in Scotland as clearly you conveniently forgot when you posted your caustic comment.

I would like the limit raised and it may be in the new Transport Bill. But at the moment it is what it is.

I point out that you are a whinging hypocrite and you ask if I drink and drive, you are a really special kind of clown.

Well why am I a whingeing hypocrite. I posted a perfectly acceptable question and you post utter bile like you do.

At least I know you are a complete and dangerous moron, exactly the sort of fool who shouldn’t have a licence to drive a truck. You can’t even read and understand a post properly.

The speed limit in England is what it is. A speed limit. It also happens to be lower in Scotland. I just asked if anyone had been prosecuted for breaking the appropriate truck speed limits.

There’s plenty fixed cameras that can!
I learnt that lesson back in 2008.

Got “done” for doing 46 mph in a 50 limit on the A420 a few years back.

Just attended a speed awareness course yesterday and the guy doing the course said cameras use ANPR so can distinguish which vehicles should be doing what speed
