Agency guys

Do you just use one agency or use multiple? If so how does that work with PAYE?

I did consider LTD but I will only be working part-time so don’t think it will be worth the hassle.

I work…

Two different agencies for two seperate jobs. Both are on full PAYE terms with holiday pension contributions and sick pay. My wageslips are taxed on one NI number.

Normally, if you work on PAYE for two employers, you get your tax-free allowance in one job, and pay the full 20% in the other one.

I’m currently working for two agencies, both PAYE.

Trouble is, the one giving me the most work - I’m now paying 40% tax and 10% NICs with, as I’d designated the other one “Main employer”.

I’ll get that tax back later, but in the meantime, I’m obliged to work “retainer” shifts to keep both pay credits going at once.

For january though - I have no complaints as yet. Still getting 2-3 shifts per week, which at the rates I’m getting - is fine and dandy.

How have you ended up on 40% tax?

That is what would annoy me…

The entire tax issue. I know you can reclaim the tax later but still…

But you get it back all at the same time

I had a tax rebate last November they sent me a letter I phoned up few days later money in bank so np

If it is more than a year you can claim it with interest although you can only go back 7 years

It would still annoy me.
So If I work 1 day a week with one firm and one day a week at another I will be paying emergency tax on one of them?
I get that I can reclaim it later just rather tedious.

Throw the…

Opportunity of working and making money away because you find waiting tedious?

Seems a little short-sighted to me.

From my past experience this is a solution that was perfect for me:

Phone your tax ofice and ask them to split you tax free income equally between both employers so basically your tax code is halved 50/50.

Simples!

How does employee’s NI work when being with two different agencies on PAYE in the same week?

Do you get the £162 employee’s NI tax free allowance from each agency? ie. 2 x £162 = £324 each week?

I’ve been on agency jobs this last 6 months or so. Not once have I ever checked my hours against what they pay me, not once have I ever checked tax codes, I really could not give a ■■■■.
I have thousands in the bank and it’s all because of agencies.
Really, not bothered about 20 quid here or there…

this is why i am still with NOVA plus i get a weekend rate which i would not get as PAYE. since i can only work weekends for 6 months per year it is worth my while staying as i am even though i want shot of them

No premium rate for weekends on PAYE? - No WONDER people are so hard-up north of the border! :open_mouth:
