Hi,I was wondering what damage it might do to a 4 over 4 gearbox if someone lifted a lorry cab whilst the engine was still running. The lorry made a grinding noise once the cab was lifted approximately 2 ft. Then once it was lowered it would only select gears 3 4 7 and 8.
The gear stick won’t move over in order to select the other gears now. It just moves up and down.
The LF will go in to gear when you raise the cab ,what you will have heard as the synchros grinding ,chances you did any gearbox damage are slim
The other issue that the LF can suffer due to neglect is that the locking mechanisim on the telescopic tube can fail,which when tilting the cab can damage the linkage …You never said wether you did put the cab over …if you did ignore my last bit ,but ,also check the balljoint at the base of the gearlever hasn’t failed
