So I started at 18:00 today and been off since Saturday morning. Put my card in and I was straight at my truck so no need for a manual entry. Done a print out later on to look at something else and where the mode symbol goes there is a question mark next to the time from 00:00 to 17:59 It would normally say break/rest there. So what does the question mark mean and why’s it done that? It’s a Stoneridge tacho in a 10 plate Scania if that helps
That would be a type 1 tachograph, they always record the time the card is not in the tachograph with the ? symbol unless the rest period is manually input.
The ? Symbol is time that is not accounted for, it’s not a problem so don’t worry about it.

As tachograph says the older VDUs recorded time away by default as a ?
The new ones it’s a selectable mode for manual entry input which can cover things like using an analogue chart for part of the shift etc
