Cheap drivers

If/when we leave the EU, will the UK restrict the entry of non-EU drivers,as the EU does at the moment? Or will employers be free to recruit drivers from wherever they are cheapest?

No one can work out if we are leaving, what happens after that, is even less certain. Honestly, no-one can actually answer that, few best guess scenarios but that doesn’t answer the question.

Optimum:

There will be thousands of “English” fans coming back from Russia, can YOU tell the difference between a Polish or Romanian and anyone from Stan?

We’re are not leaving the Eu, pesco all but signed, Eu law to be ‘coded’ into English law Eu still controlling & printing our money supply & more importantly nearly every front line politician is 2/3 generation immigrants from Eastern Europe. 17.4 million voters cannot see the wood for the trees… those of you that believe your vote counted must still believe in Santa, Bigfoot & other mystical creatures.
Edit* before I get knocked senseless I want out but I also understand the history of this country, in particular the so-called revolution of 1688.

Like albion says no one knows what will happen yet its all speculation. Perhaps they might try to attract people from the likes of the Ukraine if a lot of EU member Eastern Europeans leave or try an attract from further afield maybe? If companies can not recruit or make the job attractive to home grown workers (which would be a shame) then i reckon travel restrictions will be lifted to get access to foreign labour not just drivers.

I keep asking when the average person actually had the control they claim to be taking back?
Whatever happens it won’t be us calling the shots regardless of what happens over brexit, those at the top have their own agenda and rich and powerful people they have to pay back for assisting their rise up the greasy pole of politics.

So if those rich and powerful people want cheap labour, cheap labour they shall have EU or no EU.

They don’t nor ever did, but ‘educated’ people like to believe & put all there faith in illusions!

They have already put the signs up in Dover…T1…T2…and TIR…directing drivers to the correct lanes…where there is a new office…and 2 windows…nothing ever changes eh !!..

Ah, just like old times ,but to allow for the disabled is that on the ground floor, so the Sunday night stair misery is not to be repeated ?

The cheap labour is not because of the ethnicity of the drivers, as anyone who works in this climate by definition is cheap labour. The Eastern Europeans have pushed the labour market into supply out stripping demand. Over supply drives prices down in every market. That’s why utilities and public transport are so expensive, as closed markets mean high prices due to demand out stripping supply. Why do you think Corbyn is so obsessed with taking them back into public ownership? To pay lay abouts with the profits in his socialist utopia. Transport runs in a free market, so unless there’s a boom in manufacturing within the next few years, the only way wages will rise is if the supply dries up

You can hate or moaning about Ee but you need looking for problem somewhere else.Wages go down in last 15 years not just in driving but in to manh different job where no EE.Security, plambers car repair specialist moaning who no easy earn money.Plenty small store closed. One from reason-technology kill wages.

Technology is not killing wages at this present time, as automation is an infant technology. It’s an over supply of labour, which has been a direct result of the countries that entered the eu in 2004 and onwards

This is not about xenophobia, but the system, wages have actually stagnated in real terms for the last coupe of decades and not just in the UK but many countries. The reason is the adoption of neo-liberal economics which gives large companies easy access to global markets, which means they can either move production to places with far lower costs, usually those lower costs are wages where that isn’t possible they are able to attract workers from lower wage economies.

However if you don’t think there aren’t many EE workers in security, something I assume you mean to be plumbers, or repairing cars, then you must go around with your eyes and ears closed.

Look towards the colonies my boy, theirs a ready supply of labour there.

I better ask Tomasz why there aren’t any East European taxi drivers next time I use his taxi, :unamused: although it’s not difficult to work out why he’s done really well, nice fleet of taxi’s, he always turns up on time and smartly dressed in a suit and tie, which is probably why he’s got some good high profile contracts.

Like I said before this isn’t about xenophobia, its about supply and demand of labour being in control of those with the wealth and power not the workers, regardless of country of origin.

Some on here still speak ill of Thatcher, but it was Tony who opened the flood gates to all sorts. I wouldn’t have minded if we were welcoming those who had skill sets that we needed , but no in you come and we will help with the claim forms.

Tony Blairs government doesn’t have the best legacy. Stuff like the minimum wage were good, but the welfare state he created has caused all sorts of problems. Self responsibility was allowed to go out of the window, people made better off sat at home on their backsides, idle idiots being handed money on tap to breed yet more idle idiots because “why shouldn’t I be able to have 4 kids I can’t afford”. It’s no wonder employers lapped up the willing EU workers to do the crap jobs when they became easily available.
