Any experience of airport catering companies?

Agency have just called me. I’m booked in for a shift on Sunday rates for today now… However, if it’s airside don’t I need some sort of pass/checls? Which I don’t have… They just told me the name of the company and I’ve googled it. Can’t see why I’d be going to the airport for a catering company and not driving food up to planes. Might be wrong and it might be a trunk run to London or something.

Sorry for daft question as usual. I’ll be doing it anyway as if I turn up and am turned away it’s 8 hours at Sunday money.

You won’t be going airside, without relavent security checks, all the driver’s I’ve seen at Heathrow and Gatwick, have been non British, so how the hell they get enhanced security checks i don’t know.

Here is me dreaming that I rock up they realise i have no security clearance and then sending me home. Meaning £160 for doing next to nothing.

Possibly the meals are prepared off-site, driven to the airport and then transferred onto scissor-lift trucks to be loaded onto aircraft and you’ll be doing the first bit? I imagine they are aware of the certification required to go airside.

Why worry about security checks just for one shift, pack your jam butties in your carrier bag and off you go, if you get turned away at the gate because you don’t have the right tickets, that isn’t your problem. You not paid to think, your paid to be a steering wheel attendant taking stuff from A to B, You’ll still get paid by the agency whatever happens so win win

Experience of airside catering■■?

Yeah… DON’T!

5 minutes driving - 55 minute handballing them metal trolley crate thing on and off planes every hour!

Having to go like F, because the plane will be leaving in X amount of time - REGARDLESS!

But this was +20 years ago at Newcastle airport. Might have changed since then (or not though)…

I agree with Harry but I doubt you’ll be driving a scissor lift, you could have the pilots eye out with one of those.

If it’s Ryanair you may need your own butter knife

I live round the corner from donny airport so you will be literally driving past the front of my flat if you get the gig. There’s a couple of new roads from the m18, one opened 2 days ago which makes it a doddle now. If you want directions just ask.

Then…

Fight your way through the nine or ten different ways that will appear here, to get to the same place like the last Donny directions thread.

Made it okay. Nice little airport this. Security was a nightmare. But It’s interesting at least. Yorkshire people are very friendly.

Driving home in 5 mins and will be an easy little earner. Would deffo come back here if agency offered it

Yeah but I was right that time and I’d be right this time [emoji1]

While we’re on the subject of donny airport, who knows anything about what Rhodes from Heathrow bring or take away to/from ‘my’ airport.
Some days I see loads of them in and out past my flat then other days none at all.

dam u wish i was going back there sooner.sadly can not go till next year but then ill have a month there

An old housemate of mine used to work for a sandwich making company, and his shift would involve trunking a trailer full of sandwiches to Heathrow each day. It was nothing more than a regular delivery that any one of us could typically do. There was no airside involved.

I went airside…very airside at Birmingham airport about 4 or 5 years ago delivering some drainage for some work being done. I had to be escorted straight across the main runway!!!i didnt have any security clearance [emoji3]

I didn’t go across the runway - but needed an ■■■■■■ like you. I also had the full monty search including the metal detector and a pat-down. Pretty similar to going on holiday. Everyone was really sound - and I did get to see a smoking hot trolly dolly come in through the trade entrance.

The job was mega easy. Didn’t even need to get out of the cab when I got inside the airport. They asked me to reverse it up to another truck and it was loaded directly onto that. Handed paperwork out of the window and then just passed them my new seal to secure doors and I was on my way. I was actually glad it was a manual truck as I wouldn’t have fancied reversing onto another truck in an auto.

I’ll be calling the agency and saying I want to go back to that job as much as possible. Was more interesting than lots of stuff I do and was fun to see how things work behind the scenes. Not sure I’ll be looking forward to my in-flight food as much though on my holidays.

The stockyard is only 15mins from Doncaster airport, property less now the new link road is open from M18 J3. Not that I would encourage anyone to use the Stockyard for cheap holiday parking. I was parked up at the nearby prison on Saturday and there must’ve been 15+ Jet2 airplanes come into land in quick succession. Ryanair use Doncaster to train their pilots, they bring the plane load of em up and practice landings, those massive Russian antinov cargo planes also regularly come and go
