Hook to Lincoln

Anyone know the best way of getting from Hook (near Basingstoke) to Lincoln, starting at 7:30 or 8am?

Google Maps was suggesting M3, M25, M1, A46. That’s quite a long way around; I would have thought of heading for the A34 and then M40, A43, M1, A46 but if there’s a jam on the A34 that could add a lot of time (and I’ve got a pick-up in Lutterworth on the way back).

Any other suggestions?

I think that I would use the A34 route to avoid the M25. It might depend on the traffic reports just before I left though.

Going down that way from up here we’ve always used A43, M40, A34 route.

I went from doncaster to hook yesterday. I always use the a34 a43 route. Yes it can get sticky in places (Oxford) but nowhere near as bad as the m25.

I ended up going via the M25 because there was an accident on the A34 and on the M4 near Reading so the M25 was the only option. Normally wouldn’t even think of going that way to get to the Midlands and it seemed odd that it was the only route both Google Maps and my sat-nav suggested.
