Ray Whites Border Force Tug!

:frowning:

I’ve been spun over on numerous occasions in numerous UK ports but this level of investigation suggests UKBA were acting on some type of intelligence. This tip-off could of course have been malicious and designed to divert attention from a different vehicle on the same crossing which had nothing to do with Ray White but which was carrying a large amount of contraband, this is a common tactic of smugglers and UKBA fall for it every time.

Thats tad harsh a think.

They were deffo looking for something thats for sure.

Harrys probably on the money, i just hope mr white gets some kind of compensation for all the money its cost him.

Tough day at the office that’s for sure.

If whatever tip off they had was unfounded, and you were shown to be 100% innocent, (which you clearly were) you should be fully compensated for all loss incurred imo.
What does the law say on this?

Unfotunately it seems somebody probably slid in alot of contraban ,While he was pulled up …
It could be false info about Pete .Or could be he has a competitor seriously jealous ,Or the border force think new trucks lots of wonga …■■? We will never know …
Either way why do they allow ilegals through but stop cheese … :unamused:
A sniffa dog would have saved a lot of the damage ■■?

I don’t think he will get money back, though he should when its clean.

Not had them wreck a trailer or load, but had a couple of ours spend the night in the cells when they didn’t like the paperwork for a load.

I like how that idiot Kenny Todd says “you should have stood your ground and refused them permission”. :unamused: I guess he’s never heard of the Border Force before. On a scale a 1-100 for government departments having lots of powers to ruin your day, HMRC are at #100, VAT man is at #95, CSA is at #90 and the UK Border Force is at #1. They can legally force you to strip naked and do a cavity search on you without you having any say in the matter if they deem they have “reasonable suspicion” so getting shouty with them and refusing to comply with their orders will not end well for you or your vehicle. :open_mouth:

There was a thread on another forum a while back where some poor guy had returned to the UK in his car and was stopped by them at Dover for a full search. They basically reduced his car to a pile a spare parts and a shell. Their hamfisted way of dismantling it resulted in all the plastic retaining clips and lugs for the trim being snapped so the interior and dashboard wouldn’t go back together. They just washed their hands of it, said it wasn’t their problem and they were just doing their job and off they trotted to their next victim.

20 yrs ago one of my first customers had me taking motorbikes in to Wellingborough prison that had come straight in from the U.S .for the cons to do up ,They always had a good look round the stuff ect just glad they didn’t search up my ■■■

Why, what was up there??

I think the mistake was made when Whites agreed to pay the cold store’s handling fees. Not happening, those charges go to SW1 2AA.

Doubt they had much say in the matter , the driver can’t refuse orders given . Trouble could start with the perfectly reasonable claim for lost work , will Ray be marking his cards , not just at Immingham but the rest of the ports too ? We all know how vindictive these bureaucratic government bods can get .

UKBF should pay compensation in full and hope Ray White chases them for it, the whole lot inc backload fees. If they found nabis or half of Eritrea hidden in the load then fair enough but sweep it clean with no form of compensation isnt on…

I had a year back in the early 90’s searching mainly France for damaged cars interesting to the company my dad was working for.
A young lad as I was then going over to Europe every Sunday night to Friday sure did attract their attention in Dover! Nearly every trip I got the guy on the pedestal pointing left or right to me so into the ‘barn’ I turned and then had to empty everything out for a search. I never had my car stripped but my dad did in the 70’s or 80’s and they did quite a lot of damage. He billed them and says they paid. In fact making more out of them than he did once the car was sold [emoji23]
May have been wishful thinking on his behalf I don’t know but it sounded good to a kid like me [emoji23]

If the unit was clean release the unit at least another trailer can be used so as not to delay anymore than needed for onward loads etc

I wouldn`t expect that level of interest in a vehicle, without some form of intelligence “tip-off”?

And are Border Force such naifs that they would put that much effort into an anonymous (possibly malicious) phone call? Be it someone with a grudge, or someone diverting attention from another vehicle?
I`d doubt it. They may have a new name, but the people involved have been doing the job for years.

So, if we assume they had what they considered “strong suspicions” and followed their own procedures, they Id say they should acknowledge their errors (and we all make mistakes) and give some form of compensation when things go wrong. I wouldnt expect punitive payments, but the haulier and owner of the goods do deserve some form of explanation and compensation.

Unfortunately UKBF act with an arrogance that is second to none with UK law enforcement agencies and seem to go out of their way to alienate drivers, the ones at Immingham are probably the worst their whole attitude to drivers there seems to be just to annoy anyone passing through. Hand them 10 or 12 CMR’s in the correct order and you can guarantee they will shuffle them all about for you, had one take 15 minutes to read 3 CMR’s written in German and then she asked me what the load was I told her it’s written in front of you for her to reply I can’t read German or another who in a very stern voice told me that I should be aware that it is illegal to bring guns into the UK no ■■■■ Sherlock! Better tell the boss to cancel the next shipment of Armalites then.
Compared with what happened with Ray’s lorry these may seem trivial but having spent many hours being searched at various UK ports and nothing ever found you do have to wonder what intel they work off, and then they have the neck to start asking you to help them by asking questions about various people or who is bringing what into where and looked shocked when having spent 4 hours being held you don’t offer them any help which then just marks your cards for the next time.
With a change in attitude towards drivers they could probably gather quite a lot of low level int which if pieced together may help solve something in the bigger picture, but as long as they view every driver as a criminal then they shouldn’t be surprised if they are constantly met with silence.

Here’s the words from the Facebook post. There are various pictures of them unloading the truck, cutting through blocks of cheese and drilling holes in the trailer as well.

Well What a day.

I would like to start by Stressing that I completely accept that Border Force have a very important job to do and fully accept any Check and Inspection that needs to be done on any of my Vehicles and The Goods that we carry.

We Arrived in Immingham at 05:00 this morning from Rotterdam on DFDS. Truck was stopped by Border Force for a Check. After 2 hours of extensively searching the truck, Which included taking all the roof lining apart, Cutting the drivers pillow open and taking apart his XBox, nothing was found. We are Loaded with Cheese from Dresden Germany. After 5 hours at the docks, we had a Border Force ■■■■■■ to Grimsby to a cold store that they had hired, Whites Transport had to pay £500 for the use of the coldstore to strip out the load. 6 Border Force Employees Unloaded and Reloaded but also climbed on, cut apart and damaged the goods. Then they drilled holes in the floor and walls of our trailer. Now at Midday we are being escorted back to Immingham Docks to complete paperwork. The delivery point will not accept the goods now until it has been independently inspected and that can only take place on Monday. I have lost the reload I had planned and the reload after that, and have let down 2 angry customers. The Truck is now stuck in Immingham for the Weekend unnecessarily when I had lots of work planned.

Approximately £2500 out of pocket with Costs / Charges and Lost Work because of this.

A Border Force Stop Which results in a clean Stop should not cost you parking the truck for 4 Days with lost revenue.

Absolutely Nothing Was Found & We feel very hard done by.

Would be interested to know if anyone else has suffered this kind of treatment and if they have challenged Border Force for lost costs.
