UK Mail

UK Mail looking for night drivers fairly close to me, Anyone got any of the usual info on them as they just say salary competitive on advert.

UK Mail are owned by DHL now, when there were redundancies at my place, the class one drivers here were told about the local UK mail hub who were after a driver, for nights. The pay was around 22-24k  , wagon and drag work, it may vary depot to depot though. I get more than that on 7.5t

£22 to £24 grand a year!!! They say competitive salary.

Not sure on salary as has been said DHL bought UK mail out.

We are on a 50 hour contract at £10.68 an hour plus night shift bonus, and time and a half over 50 hours.

33 days a year holiday as we work Bank Holidays.

So I imagine it would be something similar to that.

is that at Ryton on dunsmore?

Yes it is

You will have to have the ability to know that you ignore all other road users, and that you have priority at every junction or traffic lights in the land. You must also be able to travel at warp factor 9, again, ignoring every law in the land. The ability to multi task behind the wheel is to be expected after training.

To meet our rigourous disciplines outlined above, we will send you for training to our depot at Morley near Leeds.

Ken.

Competetive with the floor maybe…?

Tbh the job is so easy a monkey could do it.
Drive for 3 hours ish here.
Wait an hour or two
Drive 3 hours ish back.
Same thing day in day out.
Same roads day in day out.

It is without a doubt the most boring job in the world.

Whilst 22 to 24k a year isn’t much it doesn’t always tell the full story.

As I said I’m only on £10.68 an hour but with my night shift bonus it takes my wages to around £33k a year for a standard 50 hour week.

Now people say on here how bad wages are, but tbh anywhere in the Midlands pretty much I don’t think there will be many jobs paying north of the wages my place pays.

Most jobs that you see advertised are a lot less per hour and lower hours like 39 hours a week for 9-5 type jobs unless you are well qualified and in more specialised jobs for any type of job.

I think that sometimes the money issue depends on where you live etc as there will always be regional differences.

It’s the fact that you say ‘standard 50 hour week’ that worries me

Not getting at you btw, just a comment

They were advertising for drivers near me a while ago. I started filling in the online application form but deleted it when I got to a question asking me to give an example of when I’ve shown excellent customer service skills or some bullshine like that. Got the impression it’s a company full of corporate bollox

Jesus wept, what sort of a bloody question’s that for a lorry driver, i too would have stopped at that point, utter ■■■■■■■■.

Why does a 50 hour week worry you?

A.

… to give an example of when I’ve shown excellent customer service skills…

Easy two examples:

  1. I haven’t pinched the light out of the TM, planner or that idiot in the office who thinks “supervisor” means they are in charge.

  2. I managed not to shout at the goods in clerk at Nisa Scunthorpe when they ignored me for 20 mins then said i was 15 mins late.

If they dont accept those, they have no place to interview drivers.

Personally my go to answer would be - I’m 42 i think and i cant remember last week, do you really think i can remember the last time i did something this unrelated to my job!?

I turned up for work, I delivered the stuff, I went home.

That good enough? :sunglasses:
