ask a yoof of today to wire a plug up or change a fuse or change a flat tyre and they will look at you funny and reach for a smartphone ap to get somone out to do it for them at ruinous expence

I bet plenty of kids still do these things having been shown by their parents.

I’m only 31 and I learnt a lot of practical skills from my dad. Was building computers in my teens. Could certainly wire a plug. My dad taught me a lot of motorcycle maintenance and I was changing my own motorbike tyres in my early twenties. Always got stuck in to repairs to my car and diy. But I’d say I’m of the first proper iPhone generation.

I’ll definitely be passing practical skills onto my son. And that’s the problem maybe, how many yoof get a chance to learn anything practical?
