A taxi where theres no driver to say ‘are you busy’? That’ll never catch on surely… :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe, in fact I was mocked for my beliefs and predictions that this is all well on the way and has been in development for years. I have first hand experience of working in and developing automation and I know the subject very well. It is on it’s way in the driving arena.

Yawn.
You can’t have a 5 minute conversation on a modern mobile without the bloody signal vanishing.

Total Recall was science fiction not a bloody documentary.

Should help Uber get their London license restored. :smiling_imp:

Sharon Stone was a magnificent specimen though J.

It took a long time for that particular ■■■■■ to die down

You will not be yawning soon fella. You mouth will be wide open in surprise.
Like a lot of others on here I feel you are unaware of the recent advancement of technology for transport possibly because it is not in the news everyday and the average joe bloggs is totally unaware for sure.
It is happening and a lot sooner than some think. :open_mouth:

Holding me breath in anticipation, hurry up lads turning blue here :unamused:
Hang on the signal’s dropped…oy Fred pull the string tight will you didn’t quite catch the resonance through me heinz bean can.

Beaver, Sharon Stone sorry to say has never done anything for me, though i suspect the same might be true in reverse.
Some the multi boobed slappers were alright mind :smiling_imp:

It’s the Demolition Man type world that we need to worry about.

Maybe Dr Damon can explain why it’s actually illegal to use a GPS based speedometer on a car let alone allow a GPS etc type remote control system to drive the thing.Or for that matter exactly how many aircraft take offs and landings are made by auto pilot and why not.

Meanwhile we sack all the drivers in every sector of transport from taxis, buses to trucks and replace them all with robots. What could possibly go wrong. That’s an awful lot of people ending up looking for a job and an awful lot of lost spending power in the economy and benefit claims.Meanwhile picture the scene loads of robot taxis, buses and trucks all programmed by Audi driving white collar workers and even then liable to potential catastrophic electronic meltdown. :open_mouth:

My theory is that this country is now governed by the Chinese.Who of course are renowned for their control freak tendencies and more understandably judging everyone by their own driving abilities. :smiling_imp:

My theory is that no bugger’s running the country at all, even the lunatics that used to be in the asylums we no longer have couldn’t make things this bad, hence why now push has come to shove regarding the Brexit fiddle, Remainer May and the rest of the socialist democrats currently pretending to be conservatives are terrified the cat is going to be out of the bag :unamused:

“But while automakers are still dropping level 2 and sometimes level 3 vehiclesinto the market, NVIDIA’s first AI computer, the NVIDIA Drive PX Pegasus, is apparently capable of level 5 autonomy. That means no pedals, no steering wheel, no need for anyone to ever take control.”

“But it’s going to be a while before anyone gets their hands one.(sic) The new computer will be available in the second half of 2018 with next generation GPUs that NVIDIA hasn’t actually announced yet.”

Selective reading on my part? Perhaps.

Dr Damon, since you turned up on this forum, you’ve made much of your knowledge when it comes to the development of autonomous vehicles, but in all that time the only information you can come up with is one small article on a tech website.

I was in Italy last week and was talking to somebody who is working on autonomous car project, he’s is still required to be in the test vehicle to take over when the computer system can’t cope and this is on a test track.
I’ve no doubt automation will come, but it won’t be overnight, but build up through stages and there is still a lot of testing to go through and during the first stages the vehicles will still require a driver to take over, either when the vehicle comes out of the environment, road or weather, it can cope with or to intervene in the case of something unexpected happening, however these are probably the worst operating conditions for a human.

Then of course we have the social impact of automation, something that none of the companies developing the systems or politicians who are so keen on investing tax payers money into it seem willing to comment on.

Finally when the systems are up to level 5, they’ll be able to work without a rest, not lose concentration and won’t need a pay packet, but they also won’t buy any of the goods they are delivering.

The human race. The only species intent on destroying itself.

I don’t think anyone doubts the tech is being developed. I disagree with those who think it will take over completely. I don’t think that will happen in my lifetime.

As much as anything else people are only just starting to think about the huge social and political ramifications of the mass unemployment widespread automation will cause. I think I read that this year the UN set up its first full time office to research the impact of automation. Amongst other things being considered was the idea of governments imposing a quota of human employees a business would have to have.

You have an opinion that is from the dark ages. In the last 50 years we have gone from mechanised to computerised, from computerised to automation, this is just another step from the technology that has been developed now be put into use of vehicles. Mass unemployment is what we already have so nothing new there. People will go into other employment like the miners had to do and all the other workers who have been affected by automation. You only have to look at how we have gone from two way radio to wired telephones and then the smart phones we have today in a very short period.

Have you ever been to Elevenerife?

There always the one guy in the work place who if you told him you was going to Tenerife for your holidays he would instantly tell you he is going Elvenerife because he is Mr “1 up” on everything you’ve done/seen/experienced…you strike me as that guy.
