No logic involved ! A few years ago it would have been an offence to work those hours. It used to be that any/all driving periods totalling 4-30 were examined on a rolling basis, it’s now on a fixed basis.A few years ago? Certainly not in the 25 years I’ve been driving. The only change there has ever been is not being able to take three 15 minutes and the last break of a split 45 having to be 30 minutes.
December 1993 was when fixed rather than rolling was deemed to be legal by the EU courts, so yes it was within the last 25 years just, I posted the article that was in feb 1994 commercial motor further up the page.
I started doing 5 mins driver 30 mins break 4 hours 20 mins drive 15 mins break 4 hours 30 mins drive early 94 which was not legal prior to dec 1993 according to the police.
