Car Insurance

How many of you use insurance specialized for truck drivers? If yes is the premium really that much different? I don’t really want to spent 15 minutes on the phone when I could just ask you guys .

I only ask as someone mentioned this at work, which I found odd as I thought anyone who drove for a living and actually told there insurance company that they drove for a living would have sky high premiums.

Cornmarket, used to be Adelaide, job done.

Best to do a search, find the best quote you can, they’ll usually match it but may ask you for a screen shot of the quote for proof.

Never had to make a claim, but have heard from an actual claimant (non fault) they were spot on.

Cornmarket will do you a deal for a year but come renewal time they were a pain in the arse for me. I had a cheaper quote and asked them if they would match it to which they said yes then spent the next couple of days trying to convince me I wasn’t comparing like with like so they got the order of the boot for their high pressure sales tactics so be warned.

Just Renewed mine again with Adelaide they quoted me 569 this year a rise of 140 quid , so I did some quotes got one off direct line for 392 , emailed Adelaide the quote and they matched it job done no messing .
Only thing the I have a gripe with is why can’t they give u a quote like that in the beginning and save a lot if arseing around :unamused:

I had insurance with Cornmarket through the IAM for one year for about £246. The renewal offer was £715, which I declined and went back to LV= for half that.
They had no explanation for the increase, same car, same driver, no claims, no bumps.

The only crime being committed is theft by crooked insurance companies…

Well that’ll definitely put your premium up. [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

You’ve got to play the game with every insurer roughly every other year, get other quotes and give them the chance to match it.

Where you can come unstuck, and this is where Adelaide/Cornmarket (and Saga and NFU to name two others) score well is when it comes to admin fees and when you change cars address or cover type mid policy term.
Some of the other companies shaft you rotten when they get the chance, but the above companies have always been very fair with us whenever we’ve been with them.
I would suggest NFU is probably one of the top three insurers in the country, but unfortunately have priced themselves out of my wallet, Saga have been very good with the Lady Judd and she has no intention of changing (they don’t take the ■■■■ on renewals), and Adelaide/Cornmarket continue to match premiums with what i find and are nice to deal with.

Had this happen many a time,it not just Cornmarket. Its all insurers. Many a time I’ve got a good deal one year to go to renew to find a massive hike. The best one I think I had was a £276 increase when I was with directline, I queried it and was asked if I wanted to be passed to their ‘loyalty’ dept… I thought cheeky buggers I was the one being loyal. So now I shop around every year. As if the renewal quote is more than £20 I will move to another company. Theiving barstewards.

Im not renewing this year with cornmarket they wanted £452. I got a quote online with hastings for £307 they sayed they could not match it so they got the boot.

When you put your occupation in I used to put HGV driver got 1 quote then put job as Lorry/bus driver quote came down by £172.
Joys of running a GTi lol .

im with more than , tried saga a couple of years ago after getting flyer in the post . they wouldn’t even quote me for a A5 ■■ as for occupation I put delivery driver .

Tried them once, they where £1 cheaper than current insurer which isnt worth the hassle to change.
It seems loyal customers who don’t shop around are the ones that get shafted every year, the ones that dont have access to the net are ideal candidates as they don’t get to see the big picture as they will be quoted what ever they think they can get away with instead of the cheapest.
Last year same insurance co on the phone was dearer than what they were quoting on the web.

seems loads on here are happy with getting that specialist to price match after hiking the price up after a year, I’d leave on principle for trying it on

Hastings were good for me, initially they tried to increase this years premium by about £100 but after a phone call they matched last years price.

Cornmarket do my Car as a HGv driver and my motorbike as a IAM member. Yes the renewal price comes in high but a quick look at a price comparison and they’ll match like for like. Customer service has always been spot on for me and I haven’t incurred any extra changes for registration changes or getting special permission to use the bike for voluntary work.

Also had a claim with the car before and Cornmarket were OK. My only gripe was them using Kindertons accident management who damaged the car further (it was already a write off) and selling my number to numerous claims firms that still phone regularly after 2 years now.

Was with Cornmarket for 2 years, there WERE the best priced…This year the renewal had shot up £90!!!
No claims last year so no reason for it to go up!! also an extra years no claims which made it to 10 years ncb!!

Did all the usual compare sites then did Directline (they don’t use compare sites so have to go direct to their own website for a quote)who came in the cheapest by quite a bit beating Cornmarket by £110!,Didn’t go back to Cornmarket out of principal after the told me to ring them back with the best price I got and they could match it,told them ■■■■■■■■ just tell me YOUR best price before I went looking myself and they couldn’t so cancelled the renewal on the spot.

I did check with one/two of those specialist “we give discounts for HGV drivers” companies… aye, discounts on their already massively over-inflated prices. Was quoted near enough double what i pay with current insurer (Aviva)!

I switched to direct line last year and I was dreading the renewal but it actually dropped this year. It dropped a little more when I changed my main occupation to student although truck driver is still listed on my documents.
I ditched the AA too this year. £356 fully comp with all the extras plus breakdown cover. The AA were charging me £360 just for breakdown cover
