Maybe they’ve heard that footballers get paid millions per year, and don’t appear to be paying their taxes on this amount?
“Self Employed” allows people to offset for tax the craziest things after all…
I reckon the best way to deal with it all is have all those above the “rich line” - be subject to PAYE ONLY in future.
It’s too damned easy to let those with the mega revenues - get out of paying as much taxes as they do. 
It’s to be hoped, for HMRCs sake, that they actually get a result with these raids after all of the publicity that has been generated. An organisation not fit for purpose and the lunatics running the asylum spring to mind.
