When will they stop lying to us

…and admit it’s all about raising money?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending speeding, we all passed a test to prove we know the rules of the road. But hiding speed cameras in horse boxes and tractors does NOTHING to improve road safety. It just catches lots of speeders.
Stop lying and tell it like it is, a stupidity tax.

And breath!

Yes it’s snicky and questionable and sometimes these sort of things don’t help with public relations but then it does the job and catches speeders.

If you have a fixed speed camera in a location, people get to know it and slow down before speeding up again. If there is a police mobile camera then drivers just flash the oncoming vehicles to warn them.

Bottom line is if you are speeding then you take the chance of being caught and that’s nobody else’s fault except your own.

I’ve been to to many RTC’s and dealt with the aftermath as a result from speeding and I’ve seen the heart break it causes so for me I’ve no problem with it.

now its been a while since I have looked but can someone tell me how a tractor is cheaper than a bike to purchase?

if that doesn’t say revenue generating is higher in a tractor nothing does.

I want to say that as someone who spends more time driving than the average person, safer roads are in my interest and I’ll not waste my breath trying to defend people who CHOOSE to exceed the speed limit.

I will say though, that your post confirms what I said. The emphasis is on catching speeders rather than persuading them to keep to the limit in the first place. For example, someone caught by a hidden camera isn’t going to change their behaviour and will probably continue to drive dangerously until they receive the letter in the post. By then it could be too late. Therefore, IMO, catching that speeder has done nothing to improve road safety.
High profile, high visibility speed enforcement would reduce speeding, hopefully making the roads safer. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t raise as much money.
IMO, hide as many cameras as possible, but don’t lie about it being for road safety. Call it “the stupid tax”.

That idea would depend on anyone believing the green party type bs that every casualty is the result of the speed limit not being rigidly adhered to.

When it’s obvious that speed limits are being artificially manipulated for political reasons related to so called pollution and/or making road use less attractive and/or trying to appease the lowest common denominator of driving standards. While the fact is in some situations driving within the speed limit is dangerous while in others exceeding it isn’t.Especially in view of the above when speed limits are being deliberately reduced to criminalise drivers where they wouldn’t have been previously.

Having said that ‘if’ we have to have a system based on pandering to all the above then hidden not open enforcement is obviously the way to go.In addition to making it clear that the so called 10% + 2,let alone more, isn’t the relevant tolerance and ‘discretion’.Being that we’ve now got the worst of all worlds situation of some drivers who don’t think they’ll get caught or who think that there is a bs large margin of allowance over the limit.Combined with others who are ( rightly ) paranoid about getting nicked on an open road with a ridiculously low artificial limit that has no relationship to the situation. On that note why the big issue about hidden enforcement in this case when the average mobile laser trap will nick anyone at a distance long before they know it’s even there. :unamused:

While at least such an open admission,of the Green Party type war against the road user, might then get something done in making those with your ideas realise that you don’t actually have a majority electoral mandate for your flawed ideas concerning road ‘safety’.

That website with the side bar of shame can waste so much of ones life.

Assuming it’s all about so called ‘safety’ all being dependent on adhering to the ever reducing speed regime then hidden enforcement is far more of a deterrent. As for revenue generation if it was just that then it would obviously just be a fine not licence points. While ironically I’d prefer hidden enforcement not because I agree with the speed regime but because the combination of speed paranoia among some drivers and others who couldn’t give a zb really is dangerous.

If you don’t do anything wrong ie speed you have nothing to worry about…must dash gotta pick my halo up from the polishers before 5pm

Just to add to it I came a cross one at 2050 last night in the dark you wouldnt have known it until it was too late. If its to do with road safety these people should be more visible and get vehicles to slow down but hiding and doing it at night is just a money making scam. Seems they can do what they want these days. Would make more sense if there is a problem with speeding to change the road layout so they cant, mind you as been said before then they wouldnt be able to scam any more money from us.

Are you saying they’re overstating the speed you were doing to falsely issue fines? I may be missreading what you mean but thats how it reads to me as fining you for something you were actually doing isn’t really a scam. Yes it’s sneaky but if you’re not speeding then it’s not an issue.

You do know that these cameras are set way higher than the normal ones and are only going after the 80MPH+ brigade? Thought not. I guess you don’t live around here.

Its not about raising money, its about stopping the seemingly endless stream of ■■■■■■■■■ who think that the B roads of East Yorkshire are a race track and think its perfectly reasonable to do a ton up. I like most other people living in this area are sick to sodding death of not being able to get anywhere on a weekend or evening during summer because yet another of these halfwits with crotch rockets over-estimated their ability.

Its an excellent idea and when enough of these tossers have had 6 or 9 points put on their licenses from being caught in this area then the message will eventually get through that it isn’t acceptable.

If they want to race around doing 80+ they can do it in their own sodding back yard.

They were donated for free which comes as no surprise because we’re sick to the back teeth of it around here.

And I for one don’t blame you. It’s as bad over here with brainless turds nearly blowing yer doors off as they fly past you or getting right up yer jacksie trying to push you over the limit. The only thing that happens is that they might push me over the edge.
