Hmmm,
54mph lorry. …- which was travelling well within the 60mph speed limit on a country road
Brilliant journalism from the Daily Fail, as ever. All Dan Bloom had to do was look up the Highway Code to check what he was writing was correct, instead of just guessing.
Also, they seem to basically publishing the contents of a press release from the manufacturer of the camera.
But quick reactions from the driver, though. But I’m not sure I’d want to be showing the police a video of me doing 35% over the speed limit.
This was on dashcam Britain , suprised he didn’t get hurt !!
He didn’t get done for speeding? Very lucky driver, if the boy had been injured or worse the speed would have convicted him.
Think this was shown on car crash Britain last week as well. It’s one of those ones you watch and wince when you see it. He won’t do it again that’s for sure!
87kmh in a 40

The hasty driver or the bouncy child?
hope the little sxxt learnt his lesson, even though a painful one

Quick reactions?
He should have been touching his brakes when he saw them, especially if anyone was behind him.
He didn’t brake till they were both on the road, I’m surprised the cops didn’t do him for speeding as well, not that I agree with 40MPH limits on all A roads.
If he’d killed one it would have been 5 yrs (truckers almost always get banged up).

Stop being picky. 54mph kids runs in front trucker emergency brakes and nobody got injured. Job done well.
Shame the little scrote didn’t break a leg, would have given him something to remind him not to be so bloody stupid next time.
One thing I did notice, watch it in slo-mo and see how long it takes for the trucks speed to drop from 87kph, even once the kids are out in the road. This is not a criticism of the driver, just shows human reaction time and how far you travel at speed.
The BBC report says he was doing 45
…at the point of impact.
Surprised they didn’t throw the book at him for this. Maybe if he hadn’t scrubbed so much speed off they would have.
had similar happen years ago on the old a1 up north 2 kids on a Saturday morning decide not to use the footbridge, one slipped when hurdling the barrier never seen such a look of fear on a person in my life. luckily it was quiet and I had already slowed a bit.
bet he used the footbridge the following week.

Picky?
If he’d been doing 40mph when he started to brake he probably wouldn’t have even hit him.
At 50+ it was luck that no one got injured, and no one got nicked.
I stand by ALL of what I said.
They would probably have been hit no matter what the speed as the idea of this idiot chicken game is to cross at the last possible second. The kids luck ran out because he totally miss-judged it …and the reason the trucker never got himself in hot water was simply because there was no real RTA. The only offence he could be done for was common law speeding of which the police would have had to use his tacho and GPS on the camera as evidence something they don’t do for common speeding offences.
Couple of little points : whilst not condoning the action of the kids, The incident occured last October near Telford, and was released to the media by Mark Berry who remarked " Imagine what might have happend if it had not been captured on the camera !!!. Oh did i not mention that Mr Berry is of Dashcam maker Smart Witness , good of him to bring it to our notice then
