Maritime.

Hi all.
A “friend” of mine has recently started working for said firm, and is telling us of fantastic take home pay. I just thought I’d fish on here to see if he’s exaggerating at all.
is anybody here willing to say roughly what they earn ■■ Ta.

Anything between £500 and about £750 depending on how busy and what contract really. I worked there for 18 mths and it was usually around £600 take home. Plenty of hours for that though.

Cheers gunner.

Unless he’s a director there, he’s likely exaggerating a little…

More to the point is: What’s his hourly rate?

I bet he doesn’t shout about that figure…

No idea on money, but one of our lads went to work for them, lasted a day,mrs rang up and he got his old job back :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,I for the life of me can’t see a day gives you a real insight into a job,a month or I’d of thought.
Makes you wonder what there being told at interview,or are they not asking the right questions.
Another lad jacked green group after a week,3 days at f.w and he’s jacked that, sighted ■■■■ money and farm collections, surely money ( £7.20 p.h so he says) and farm collections would come up on interview    .
Said he’d be happy with 3/400 take a week,if maratimes £600 I’m sure he’d take that, then jack it a few days later ,sighting ------ and ---------
I

Truckulent. No he wouldn’t tell me which is what made me suspicious. But in all honesty take home is what it’s all about.

Have you worked there truckulent?? Yes you do a lot of hours but the money is decent for tramping nowadays.

Maybe is a lot of hours for £600 take home but don’t forget most of them hours will be spent lying on your bed or reading a book or watching TV if you’re on containers I bet
Not bad money at all for a days relaxing I’d say.

I don’t work for marmite but where I work I did 64 hours last week and 2 nights out cleared £545, I am still on week one tax as I haven’t got my P45 yet. But I’m happy as a pig in the brown stuff with my job. Yeah 64 hours might seem a lot to some but 15-20 of that was sat on building sites waiting to get tipped plus a day was called off so the Bristol job I got paid for 10 hours when I only actually worked 4 plus a night out. Jobs easy, no rush, 1 hit wonders no stress :sunglasses:

Spot on mate. It’s one of the reasons I left just couldn’t handle all the sitting about

It’s a doddle though ain’t it? I’m sure they pay the same as most of the premier firms.

Maritime like to do alot of 15’s in the week, as you are not interacting with the load, you are on rest. split daily rest. 15 hours all week long. Only reason I am not with them at the moment is I went to hand my notice in where I am to work for Maritime and the boss offered something I could not turn down. Nice kit, and easy work. I would go to them tomorrow if it went ■■■■ up at my place.

Interesting you say “no interaction with load.” I’ve seen quite a few container hauliers drivers helping unload, particularly in the sewer known as Park Royal. Is it just Maritime who say “no” to handball or is this the norm?

All i know is Maritime dont normally handball, if you are required to they tell you in advanced and obviously then you cant tip on break. I think they run quite clean.

they run very clean the money can be good 600/700 a week can be earned with plenty of overtime and maybe a sunday run out
however dont count on this all the time they have a nasty habbit of winding you back in if your earning a fortune so your more likely to kick around 475 / 550 mark as they are constantly checking the earnings of the unit against the costings i personally think the job is a peace of ■■■■ however it is also mind numbingly boaring

It’s true you can spend a lot of time ‘resting’ on boxes. Or being ■■■■■■ about as it often turns into…

But for me, that’s still at work. If I’m not at home, I’m working. I’d rather have a higher hourly rate and fewer hours. It may be ‘easy’ waiting around, but you are still at work and I find it very dull and frankly I’d rather spend time with family than sat in a truck…waiting and waiting.

… and waiting and waiting…

For me, if it got to the stage in life where in order to earn enough money to survive I needed to earn £30-40K & beyond, choosing to work 60-70 hours a week tramping away from home in a tin box away from friends & loved ones wouldn’t be my solution. Set up shop myself perhaps, but probably look for a new profession.

All this talk of “it’s all about the take home pay” and I do often wonder how many drivers out there doing these hours actually really need to be earning the sums they do. I’m sure plenty do with kids etc., but I also reckon theres plenty letting £ signs take hold of their senses. I earn what might be considered a modest salary of £24-£25K, I live on a tight budget and more money would be most useful but I value the fact i’m home every night, get to see the girlfriend and generally manage to maintain a healthy social life. All massively more important than an impressive pay packet imo.

Very true rob.I have recently taken an 8 grand a year pay cut from one night trunking job to another.Difference is i am working 15 hours less a week, start at 9pm every night, so i don’t have to rush about aftet picking son up from school anymore, im driving only half as much as my previous job, the job im now doing is so straight forward unlike my previous job where it was and still is par for the course gor some mini crisis to happen every night because of terrible planning.Oh and im not having to run bent anymore just to get the job done in time.

Wise words, very wise.

I walked out of maritime 2 years ago. At that time the wages were garunteed 55 hours a week. Equates to 11 hours per day. £10 per day meal allowance £22 night out allowance…it was £385 per 55 hours + meal allowance + o/t + night out…take all the extras off and it works out at £7 an hour + you get death in service insurance the momement you sign the contract. They also get a pay rise every year. Fuel bonus every year and accident bonus if ya lucky
