having a wander past noticed a few new signs up being the nosey bugger I am I saw this sign apologies for the crap picture but the jist is its shutting on the second of feb 2014
Bet thereâll still be loads of trucks on the road at the side towards the station. Itâs always full when I come past.
wonder if itâs because theyâre sick and tired of cleaning up dirty â â â â â â â â â â â bottles and â â â â bags after they have gone??
not sure to be honest fella I dnt use it myself I can usually be found at redbeck but I know its full most nights
Iâve used it twice in 7 year, both times it was clean but I cant comment on the rest of the years. Itâs a shame though as itâs bang in the town centre and Friday night in Ponte Carlo can be an eye opener

Itâs a hell of a walk from Redbeck to the Fraggle Rock, Gonzo!

The hangovers on the Friday mornings were the worst.
I used to get there every Thursday around mid 90âs
Used to meet up with a good bunch of lads from all over the country,
it was like being home with your mates in the local

Start off in the Fraggle Rock (real name, The Woodman) then various watering holes until heading for that late-night disco on the other side of the square. What was it called?
was it called shadowâs or something like that?
scaniia141:

Yeah Shadows was the place. I used to be in Ponty 3 or 4 nights a week when on the tankers, never used to start until 9 or 10 on a Friday morning so if you ever pulled out chuckling at the red Strato driver whoâd slept in that was me!
I wonder how many kids in Ponty have grown up with truckers blood in their veins?!

Itâs now called âBig Fellasâ and itâs still a s**t hole!
This sort of thing boils my â â â â . Ponty lorry park, one of the last links left with how the job used to be when it was actually enjoyable, the days when only social outcasts with no mates parked in lay bys (ok, so that hasnât changed ) and the rest of drivers mixed with each other over a meal and/or a pint.
The irony is lost on the â â â â â â â tossers that composed that sign who actually think that parking on an overpriced sh. hole of a Mway service area is a suitable alternative, or even on par with parking on the edge of a town centre where you can take advantage of the facilities
, what â â â â â â planet do they live on.
I would have more respect for these spotty arsed office â â â â â â â â if they said what they really thought along the lines of âThis park will close on 2 Feb as large trucks parked in our town centre, along with the sort of people that drive them are not good for our image, so are not welcome, so when you have delivered in our shops and businesses and served your purpose , please â â â â off and park anywhere you like as long as it is nowhere near our townâ
Yet another good old park gone
Is the lorry park in Wakefield still open? I parked there once for 2 or 3 days, it was only about ÂŁ2 a day or something similar. Close to town centre.

Yes but only about half the size it was due to works that seem to be going on for ages.
Ran past it this morning always a few Dutch trucks in there on a weekend probably English drivers home for the weekend.

Cheers mate, i was just curious, as i dont go that far now, i thought it was a bargin for the price!
The problem is with Wakefield council, is that they are in effect broke, so there is a possibility that they will sell off the land at Ponte Carlo for redevlopment, and they will use the excuse that there are truck facilities elsewhere for us to use, to justify it to the NIMBYâs.
To show you how much they donât care:
Our street is about 150 yards long and is a cul-de-sac. We currently have around 19 potholes on the street that they refuse to repair, and more appearing due to the state of the road, as itâs ânot in the budget.â
However, they can still fleece us for their gold plated pensionsâŚ
Ken.

Exactly. When I was first tramping, you could find somewhere to park up in most town centres. Try that now and youâll probably get hung. All I wanted was somewhere I could leave the truck while I went for a mean and a pint after work ⌠not too much to ask, you wouldnât think.
