Tesco

I filled out an on-line application for Tesco as a driver (class 2), the reason being that I’d heard they pay pretty good and I want to keep a few irons in the fire.

So, any other class 2 Tesco drivers on the forum? If so, could you tell me what they’re like as an employer? What sort of jobs do you get - is it all multi-drop or do you get to do trunks?

As usual, all replies will be gratefully received.

Kind Regards,

Paul-D.

ps…have you seen the on-line application process for Tesco■■? Jesus H. Christ, talk about time-consuming!!!

didn’t think tesco’s done class2

I applied to tesco online as well, for class 1 work.

they never replied. not a sausage.

so I chased it up, ringing each and every tesco warehouse regardless of operating company for that warehouse’s contract - north of luton, south of leeds, east of the middle of the pennine line, west of the coastline.

each and every time the reply was “no, we don’t need any drivers, we’re not recruiting at all.”.

funnily enough theough the agencies who supply them with sickness cover are seeking drivers and advertising heavily, and tesco are demanding more and more through the agencies for this sort of work, and to cover driver shortages as they settle into the WTD - but they can’t be bothered to run any extra inductions to allow drivers who haven’t worked there before to do so.

for example, staff-force in doncaster. desperately trying to cover tesco’s demand for this weekend, struggling to do it, and they can’t ask me cos I’m not allowed on site without the induction day being completed.

madness.

Tesco in Harlow run a dedicated team of class 2 drivers who do small split deliveries to Tesco Express stores in central London.

what about the rest of their depots

I worked for Tesco at MK and Brackmills for a total of 4 years. They are one of the best driver employers in Europe. Providing you are actually employed by them, not an agency or contractors. They pay extreemely good money for very little work, the pay is annual hours and you can make a fortune. The life insurance alone for each employee was 100,000 quid in 1997 :exclamation:

Didcot have some class 2 trucks so I should think all depots have them for the same reason ianyng said for all the Tesco Express deliveries. Best of luck Popeye & welcome back, nice to hear from you again. I like you took a job inside but got fed up with the dust, hassle & being stuck in one place. Now I’m outside with the hassle & all over the place.

I worked at Tesco’s in three depots, Fenny Lock, Kiln Farm Milton Keynes, Brackmills Northampton, not sure I’d wanna work thier full time, spent most of my time standing round doing nothing :exclamation: (yes I know you still get paid but it’s so borring) IE 06.00 start still waiting in tea hut at 08.00 sometimes 09.30 got better things to do with my time than that crap :exclamation:

Exactly the same at Asda at Whitwood. I used to turn up at 1800 to start my shift and regular as clockwork would still be sat there chewing the fat with other drivers at 2000, often 2100 and sometimes even 2200. Like Mike says, it gets bloody boring after a while.

 Correct me if I’m wrong, but most Tesco depots are run by contractors like Exel. I think Southampton is a Tesco’s own run, and you can tell too, hardly any trouble delivering to them.

Tesco’s seem to use a system where they have a “main agent suplier” the trouble is that they keep changing all the time Tesco’s MK were Optimum, then they changed to Right for staff (pro temp) now they’re PSP.

Don’t rate EXEL at all, they seem to undercut everyone to get the contract and then pay **** money :bulb:

Exactly, my feelings about it too. As far as I can see these contractors like Exel are uncessary middlemen, bleeding the job and money.

but exel are specialists in logistics and hence save there customers many millions of pounds over the course of a contract. yeah right.
they run trucks up and down the country sometimes delivering just fresh air.
but all they care about is the accountants, if the accountants and the customer is happy then who cares about wasted trips and milage. incidentally, all large logistics companies are the same.
