3 points and a fine?was talking to a driver today at stockton who was telling me he got 3 points and a fine cant remember how much he said fine was now for a yellow abs1 light anybody shed any light if this is what vosa are doing now ?
Re: 3 points and a fine?as far as i am aware, it would be a delayed prohibition (GV9) at best
Re: 3 points and a fine?thats what i thought aswell but you never no at the mo what there up to maybe one of the vosa guys on here can clear it up once and for all?
Re: 3 points and a fine?According to my URTU leafet on VOSA fixed penalties, I suppose it might come under, "Defective braking system and components" which does carry a £60 fine and 3 points. Bit of a cover all phrase that I supose the only way to fight it is to know what a yellow ABS light means, Surely red is a defect, yellow is a warning. In all the manuals I ever read, Yellow, orange warning lights are get it repaired ASAP, but red means stop immediatly.
Re: 3 points and a fine? You can get a yellow abs light on the dash just by having an incompatable tractor trailer combination - most of our trailers carry this warning as people were calling out the fitters when they were new - so they now have a 'this trailer may display the yellow warning in the cab' sticker

Re: 3 points and a fine?
the OP stated that it was ABS1 which is the prime mover, ABS2 (or II) is the trailer so, the warning light on the dash in his case would have been there whether he had a trailer on or not
Re: 3 points and a fine?Just tell them it goes out when the truck reaches 10kmh. Alot of the trucks I've driven have Bern like this
I love mass debating

Re: 3 points and a fine?abs 1 is the trailer my friend
Re: 3 points and a fine?
not on any of the trucks i've driven ABS1 is the unit, ABS2 is the trailer if you have one where ABS1 is the trailer, it has been wired up wrong
Re: 3 points and a fine?i once asked a guy at scania and he said it was the trailor this post could go on forever lol go on then someone clear that up whats abs 1 and whats abs 2?
Re: 3 points and a fine?
enough said
Re: 3 points and a fine?Interesting this has come up, was talking to mate of mine who got a GV9 for trailer abs light, got pulled at Eridge Green on the A26, told him not to turn the engine off so they could check the abs lights and it was on, but because he could demonstrate it was an intermittent fault (switch off and light would go out when switched back on) he only got a delayed prohibition.
Anyway another driver listening in piped up about getting 3 points, according to him they plugged a diagnostics computer into his ECU ( 2005 Volvo FH) and because it showed the abs light had been on for near on two months he got points? Question: If the abs fault has been reported but hasn't been rectified would VOSA lay the blame on the firm rather than the driver? If the driver has made every effort to report the fault and nothing has been done surely he cannot be liable?
Re: 3 points and a fine? How can you tell whether the ABS is functioning correctly anyway?
I drive a different unit every day, 96 in 211 days, so I don't know the history of them. Sometimes faults appear on dash, ie light not working, handbrake not applied (when driving at 45mph) etc. When I check there is no fault, so unless you can physically check the ABS, it could be another phantom defect.
Re: 3 points and a fine? Our units show a yellow abs for unit fault and abs1 for trailer. Must be trailer cause if I change trailers it goes out.

Re: 3 points and a fine?
You're both right and you're both wrong. Dafs have abs1 and abs2 but Volvo scania and merc use the abs and abs1 set up. As for the light being points, go back to the driver myth post with that one. My unit needs an abs ecu, and it went through its mot with the light on the dash You're never late in an 8, but you still get there after a Volvo!!!!!!
Re: 3 points and a fine?one of mine has gone through annual MoT with the ABS1 light on too
Re: 3 points and a fine?If it's a DAF, probably has about 20 warning lights every day

Re: 3 points and a fine?Try connecting the lines with the unit switched off, works for me!!!
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
Re: 3 points and a fine?mot fitter told me amber is just a warning because alot of older trailers have less pins than the newer units so when u connect the lines the unit thinks 1 of the pins in the lead is defect but truth is its not there thus resulting in abs light am very certain u carnt be done if u can then its easy pickings for vosa and more money for there xmas party

Re: 3 points and a fine?
You will also pick up points for braking and steering defects.
