Lock Down in the UK ? Is it enough?

Over here in France , M Macron has been on the tv this evening to tell us that our lock down is to be extended to the 11th May

Our lock down is a total lock down !
No going out unless absolutely necessary !
And we have to fill in a form to validate our going out :

Going to work
Going shopping
Health matters, hospital, doctor
Visiting a relative, relative in need of help
Exercise for an hour, putting the time of the start of the exercise on the form.

No attestation, on the spot fine of €135, which goes up for persistent offenders, right up to €3500 and even prison, as they register offenders

Should there be a greater control of people over there in the UK,■■

Bloody hell!?!?!?!!? :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Where’s France with their ‘death rate curve’ at the moment on this compared to other countries though■■?

Are still ‘to get worse’?

That’s pretty much what we have been doing already just without the form.

Keep seeing cyclists about ( not going to work either) I’ve heard that if a cyclists has an accident or injury it’s possible that between 12 to 16 people will come in to contact with each other .

So what happens when France comes out of lockdown, the virus will still be around, so surely there will just increase in transmission rates, then what another lockdown?
At what point does the French population, not known for their hiding their grievances, say ■■■■ you, we’re not being locked down?
And at that point what does the French Government do to get the people to comply?

That’s more or less exactly what we’re doing for whatever reason and to whatever end.French should mind their own zb business. :unamused: So in France an old vulnerable family friend not relative can be left to starve or in pain having fallen down the stairs because the Vichy zb’s say so.Obviously plenty of experience, in enforcing a possible ■■■■ takeover by CCP, in France.
Maybe direct your issues to those who caused this in China. No chance of that from CCP stooge EUSSR Macmoron. So what’s his position on cyclists if you really want to have a go regarding social distancing and unnecessary movements and excessive ‘excercise’.

Yep one rule for them and one for everyone else as usual.Exercise bs.I had to go to Sussex the other day for ‘essential’ pond fish supplies which was the only supplier open and the roads between Surrey and Sussex were empty of cars and trucks but like the bleedin tour de France infested with cyclist pelotons.

^ That’s the inconvenient truth that will smack the sheep full in the face when they realise that we’ve been hit by an unrecoverable bioweapon attack brought into the country by our own governments. They can’t release any lockdown until the point when there are no longer enough of us left to sustain the contagion. At which point UN ( PLA invasion ) forces will have taken over.

He’s only doing that to kill off the Gilets Jaunes movement though.

Who are just a reaction against Macron’s UN agreements which are all about France has to pay more and consume less so China can take more.

We come in peace.Yeah right.Give us what we want or we take it.

To answer your question Pierrot instead of putting the French down as some English seem to always do, yes from what I believe the UK should have done the same as France.
From what I hear from friends back home whilst most are sticking to the rules there are still plenty flouting them. The selfish ones that only think of themselves are the main culprits as in most other things.
People can’t be trusted to stick to rules. We see that on our roads everyday. The French have a better way in general of most things compared to the Brits and I would imagine the lockdown will be very gradually lifted much like ours if not slower than ours.

its hardly a lockdown when you compare things to france.
im just back from taking the misses for the messages and turning it into a wee 120 mile round trip enjoying the scenic scenery in the ozone eater dirty diesel.
the roads are nice and quiet for a bit of mental welly now and again, and no plod stopping anyone anywhere…long may it last.

We are doing this and more without an attestation. We don’t visit relatives, so we we are doing it even better than France

We can go to work, only if you cannot work from home.
We can go shopping as long as is only for food.
We can go to Doctors with an appointment, or chemist with a prescription.
Leave the house for one hour per day to exercise and do all the above.

So how’s that then, don’t you think that you should be visiting vulnerable relatives ■■?
You don’t have to go into their house. But making sure that they are ok and have enough food without getting too close

Yeah right, everybody in the UK is strictly adhering to the rules aren’t they ■■?!!! NOT !!
Easter weekend ■■

WheelNut you’re giving it large , but you really should look at all the figures. I’m not having a go with my OP,
I just think that the regime in GB is not harsh enough , too many people just don’t give a s{it
I look at the figures in the UK and I see on the news on “”“” UK TV “”“”" reports of idiots just flouting the advice given to them,

The problem with relying on media reports, is you get a distorted view of what goes on, I’ve been to work in places in the World and had worried messages from people because they’ve seen a report in the news about problem there, this is because the media reports magnify the issues, the same is also true of anecdotal reports from people on things like social media, they’d rather tell you about those breaking rules than the vast percentage obeying them.

Of course there have been those who’ve flouted it, but despite despite the media headlines of thousands flout UK lockdown, when you read on, it seems to be not some major national disobedience, but isolated incidents spread around the country,
Apparently Essex Police said they spoke to 1600 people over the Easter weekend for breaches of the lockdown, that’s 1600 out of a population of 1.4m and not all they spoke to were from Essex and across the country about 1000 fines were issued to a population of 66m.

I was in my garden over the weekend and although some distance away, I can still just about hear traffic on the A11, however this weekend the traffic noise wasn’t just quieter, it was eerily silent.
And when I’ve been out to my local towns going shopping, I haven’t seen crowds of people and busy roads, its all very quiet and civilised. even the queue at the supermarket, well behaved and good humoured, helped by the store manager playing queue Bingo and giving away Easter egs,
And from what I saw of a video of drone footish of England’s beaches over the weekend, it didn’t show crowds of people, just a few people waking along beaches.

My many friends who live in various parts of Europe, including France, have said despite the restrictions imposed on them and the heavy fines, people are still flouting them, but I’m sure they’re also a small minority of people.

Considering the freedom we’re all used to across Europe, I’m sure the various governments can’t really believe the level of complacence, I believe the UK Government were planning on a figure of 75% complying with the restrictions. I personally am both pleased as I feel it was necessary action, but concerned at the precedent it sets.

Whether this level can be kept up in the longer term I doubt it, I think there will be a point where people just start returning to normal, so before that happens we need another plan, for me, without an effective treatment or vaccine, the only way out seems to be mass testing, but it would have to be in the millions a week and the UK seems to be struggling with the 10 of thousands a week at the moment, I think France has ramped up a bit from a poor start, but nowhere near enough to pin this thing down.

Testing, yes, plus using the results from those tests constructively.
If someone is tested positive it is best to know who their recent close contacts were, and ask them to isolate until tested. This will mean limiting, as much as possible, close contacts, and getting acceptance of anonymised tracking via phone apps or whatever.
I know a lot object to tracking, but I reckon it could be a good tool to enable more freedom of movement earlier. A subject for debate, I’m sure.

I believe the plan is for an app on your phone telling you you’ve been near an infected person. They say it would be anonymous and as we know the government already has the capability to track you via your mobile phone signal, (leading to various conspiracy theories, but also the conviction of some rather nasty criminal types) but I’d want to see details of the scheme, as I said in my previous post, I see precedents being set and once set very difficult to change.
