Concorde

Watched the story on bbc tonight it was from the beginning to the end about the plane,
A bit of history, it’s a great story really enjoyed it

Did you ever watch Clarksons piece on it? In his typical Clarkson manner it was very bombastic but also extremely moving and poignant. Well worth searching out and watching.

The idea was good but full of flaws.Firstly frequency and multiple choices of flight departure times often beats journey time.It couldn’t be made large enough to carry enough passengers with enough space and with sufficient fuel range. While the engine position, dictated by their size, was a recipe for disaster in the event of a catastrophic engine failure. As opposed to more remote pylon mounts although any uncontained engine failure is going to do a lot of damage regardless. My theory is that the Paris crash was the result of such a failure and what happened next was an elaborate cover up.

While it’s obvious far better military suitability,as a long range exocet armed ship buster, along the lines of the Etendard, was totally over looked in being virtually immune to fighter interception and far quicker to respond than the Etendard. :unamused:

While ironically the realisation of that issue, combined with the possibility of hijack after 9/11,was possibly the final nail for its continuing civilian service. No surprise that all remaining examples have had their engines removed and a condition that none can ever fly again in preservation put on them. :bulb:
