It could be wrong but I’ve read that it’s a slang mix of Hiccup and Belch and is used as a term of disgust.

Not heard of it, but this gives a few versions and non make a ■■■■ bit of sense. Suspect the bridge will changed again by someone soon.
I think this is a bit wider spread than “Basingstoke” as I’ve seen this on bridges all around, and not just the M3 corridor…
It seems to have replaced the “Give Peas A Chance” and “Ferodo Disk Brake Pads” as well.
