Best thing thats ever happened to you

maybe youve never had a best job, if so whats the best thing thats ever happened to you?

or if youve never had owt special ,whats the worst?? thats ever happened to you

Best thing: only pass g my Class 1 in March and landing a job for a well known orange coloured supermarket with excellent rates of pay by April. Was told by everyone who had a hole in their head that I wouldn’t get the job as 2 years experience was required only to be offered 1: an assessment and 2: a job. It is by far the easiest job I have ever had (in terms of physical labour) and at £13.77+night premium one of the best paid jobs out there I have seen (I work nights which I prefer). Plenty of bunk time to be had as well whilst waiting for shop curfews to end/get loaded at various RDC’s. Been working there now for 7 weeks and loving it. Anything over 190hrs (over 4 weeks) is paid time and half as well.
My only (minor grumble here) issue is the daft rotas they have but I’m sure that will barely diminish what I feel is otherwise a great job.

Oh… I forgot… Another grumble… They use Actros which redesign your spine every night

meeting my mrs. end of, close thread.

I was going to say that tbh, along with us (mainly her thanks to this ■■■■ job) bringing up 4 kids, and how well they have turned out after the excellent job she has done in that way.

There is abolutely Jack ■■■■ that I could use as an example of ‘Best thing that has EVER happened to me’ that has any thing related to ■■■■ transport and trucking. :unamused:

exactly rob, couldn’t have put it better myself.

Same here really every great experience/moment of my life has been a direct result of meeting my beloved, yes there’s been high and lows but the highs of kids/grandkids/laughter/dancing/generally innapropriate behaviour etc far outweigh the lows.
Biggest low was nearly losing the wife to a lung infection closely followed by the loss of my parents to Pancreatic cancer and vascular dementia, possibly oversharing here though.

Course a close contender for both best and worst experiences of my life are the same thing, yes you’ve guessed it true to form I’m talking ■■■■ ■■■■■■■■■■■. I only gave her 6inches and the ■■■■■ pegged me with a 10incher.
Top tip: never ever agree to a “you do me then I’ll do you” game without first looking in the bedside cabinet.

Like those above,May 24th.1991 when I met my mrs.All 4ft.10" of her.(I’m 6ft.)Best day of my life by far.Worst times because we have both had a brush with cancer but we are still here.

several years ago i was down a black hole of despair and depression with constant thoughts of suicide being the only forseeble option.
then i joined trucknet.
looking at the posts and general whinging, moaning, whining, and generally ■■■■■■■■ with all those perfect holymoly dudes working for stobarts, tesco and the like made me realise that lifes not so bad after all, thus changing my perspective that your average truckies life in here totally ■■■■■ worse thn mine, hence the black clouds opened up and along with my misses,a ray of sunshine broke through to bring me back from the brink to the sunny days of life in general nowaday.
keep up the good work trucknet, especially the posters asking about satnavs, cooloxes, inverters, and night out equipment.
every day after reading the pish in here,my life just gets better and better.
if you can get u in the morning and pull on both socks, then theres always someone worse off than you…

I always think there is ‘always somebody worse off than me’ when I pass the ‘‘Endurance test job’’ type trampers parked up in their lay bys for 8 hours . 59 mins 59 seconds :unamused:  …on my way to park up somwhere near a Wetherspoons or similar for a relaxed and well fed pleasant 11 hours off or so, night out. :sunglasses:

but then,if thats what suits them best, then happy days all round is it not?
if they are coerced into that regime, then more fool to them for taking it.
for me,i like to crack on and blitz it,then if theres the opperchancity of an 11 somewhere sleazy then fill your boots, other than that, even if im wrecked and sleeping, then i cant handle an 11 without looking at the clock and being bored silly.
its easy abroad when theres better weather and quite often more scenery or la jonquera type activities to while away the time, then an 11 may turn into a tad longer though for me in the uk,id rather stay close to the cab than have to go to a wetherspoons or similar and be sitting like frankenstien as i dont like pubs in the 1st place.
cook me grub, watch laptop ect then crack on means happy days for me.
theres enough delays when you dont want them to compensate me for taking an 11 when your meant to.
work your week the way that suits you best and be happy. theres some folk are happy with stobarts and tesco, whereas others would consider it to be so demeaning that they would work elsewhere.
all depends on the company you work for,and your aspect to life.?
i cant comprehend the ones working and not enjoying the job, theres masses of jobs, away and do one you like and make the most of it.

^^^^^^^^^^^^
I’ve always looked at it this way, you’re away all week so make the best of it by getting a bit of social life out of the job.
Not as much as I used to btw, I do have the nights sat watching the telly if there’s owt good on, sat with a can of John Smiths out of the fridge.
I would do one of the other if at home so what’s the difference while being away.
All those work/sleep only, go go go patterns finished when I stopped being an owner driver.
Would I do it for somebody else?
Would I ■■■■.

Btw, out of interest…How do you ‘sit in a pub like Frankenstein’ exactly ■■

well i dont do pubs when im working or not as i cant abide them though i find it ok when im abroad and grounded somewhere.
prob similar to i cant watch tv or listen to the radio in the uk as i find it an insult to my intelligence and cant believe the subtle brainwashing the lemmings listen to nd i cant abide any form of tv sport ,hence another reason not to sit in a pub.
i only drink when im on holiday or if theres a specific reason to be doing so and i like the company im in,otherwise i never drink as i can take it or leave it.
i was away fishing a cpl months ago,got bladdered and fell out of the boat.(great day out)
the time before that was about 18 month ago on a similar day out.( i fell in also)other than that,id rather drink a can of juice.
i remember years ago when places worked 8-5 and if you wernt tipped or loaded, then it was a night down the docks or similar following the herd instinct and finding someone to go and get bladdered with.
i tried going to the pictures, and baths sometimes but couldnt get around the idea of everyone else there with pals and such, and me being there alone.
either your billy no mates the social inadequate,a mad perve attracting woofters,or else your a prospective kiddy fiddler, hence the sitting like frankenstien bit.
prob different nowadays with in cab entertainment and such so theres no need to socialise unless you like sitting alone in a pub.
different strokes mate,

The best thing that ever happened to me, was the day my suspicions where found to be true about the wife having an affair. Walked out there and then and never looked back.
The worst thing that ever happened was meeting her. But hey ho, we all make mistakes and this 1 was a colossal 1.
The only good thing was the 4 great kids I got.

Obviously the time i was able to have with my wife untli i lost her.
But perhaps strangely, getting my HGV and being able, from the early 70s to drive and visit so many wonderful and quite a few exotic countries in the guise of a ‘‘trucker’’,and to be able to see so many different peoples and Cultures.A wonderful education though Life.

Sorry to hear you lost your life-partner,Hutpik.I toohave been driving HGV since 1970 and like you have visited numerous places between western Ireland and Afghanistan over the years. It is a great education to experience other cultures if you try to socialise rather than avoid "foreigners."I am lucky enough to have learnt a few languages and several words from others. My experience is that most people will meet you at least halfway.Good manners are the same everywhere.
