Brexit could end 48 hour working week

…and holiday pay for millions of part time workers.

Just like umbrella schemes … just like 0 contract hours? Nothing new here

Strange how I remember us having a Labour government and my father working a 40 hour week + optional overtime and having paid holidays before we ever joined the EU.While the the difference was that his hourly rate and that holiday pay was actually worth more in real terms. On that note where is the rule that Brexit means that we can only have the choice of a Conservative government as a non EU member state,as opposed to the type of Labour Party which Benn,Shore and Heffer stood for.Don’t remember them even calling for a 48 hour week let alone more or an end to paid holidays.

Meanwhile we’re really supposed to believe that a 48 hour week and 15 hour shifts and free movement of cheap EE labour, and in work benefits and zero hours contracts and an economy collapsing under the weight of our EU trade deficit, while the Germans are laughing all the way to the bank, are all so much better than pre 1973 Britain for the Brit working class. :unamused:

I hate to say I told you so. Right wing Brexiteers are salivating at the chance to “cut red tape” and attack workers’ pay and conditions.

Conservatives relishing eroding workers rights?

Never see that coming :open_mouth:

Don`t get to hysterical over prediction from a “rag” that many have never heard of.
Same as reports by the Evening Standard,Guardian, and Huff Post they are full of crap predictions, that spread doom and gloom
Wait and see.
As for the WTD 48 hr rules etc, from what has been posted on TNUK in the past a good few think its rubbish any way.

Look at the timing of the article possibly published now to distract from the fact that the SNP have just increased taxes for people on fairly modest incomes.

Indeed, proper employers who value their staff have based their contracts of employment on the 48 hour average as an absolute maximum, and in some such companies POA isn’t recognised even if you tried to use it, they don’t want staff representing them with their eyes hanging out shattered beyond endurance.

The other sorts of employer who try to get their staff to work 60+ hours continually whilst paying them a rate they should be getting for 40 are doing it the other way, the 48 hour working week has never applied to them because they’ve flouted the intention of the ruling from day 1, and have been aided and abetted in doing so by the state and its lackeys.

Non story anyway, just another straw being grasped in the desperation to cling on to the EU as a collective mummy for those who don’t believe in the nation state, and who assume we can’t possibly survive without being told what to do by unelected demi gods in Brussels, and with increasingly hysterical propaganda by those with lucrative fingers/pensions/grants/non jobs etc in the EU and globalist pies.

Well, you did vote to return to the good old days…

Brexit would probably bring back the UK opt-out of the 48 hour working time directive hours.

At present, who gets overtime for working beyond 48 hours, when it’s technically not allowed?

…The overtime dried up when our opt-out did. :bulb:

With the opt-out back in place - we should now see a return of good old fashioned regular overtime to fill these vacant shifts we keep getting told cannot be filled at this time of the year at very least.

As for scrapping “Holiday Pay”…

Someone put up the Tory manifesto commitment to this.

The scrapping of worker’s rights/holiday pay - has been a Leftie Lie perpetuated for some time already.
…Like the one about UKIP “scrapping the NHS”
…or the Libdems only consisting of Remainers…

A believed lie - does a lot of damage of course. Miliband Loses, net seats vs flam-flam Cameron. UKIP go to zero seats, as engineered by a strangely united Westminster for once… Libdems go from 57 seats to 9 on the back of them being called a “100% Remainer’s Party”…

And the uncontrolled influx of migrant workers had no impact on terms and conditions…

Umbrella Schemes were set up to fiddle the taxman, regardless of political affiliation.
Champagne Socialists like to get out of paying taxes as much as Liberal Elites or Toffs after all.
Who pays instead then?

“I know. Let’s make PAYE workers think they can have the deductions for tax that IR35 workers get. If it all goes wrong - we just shut up shop, and open somewhere else, whilst our victims get a hefty tax bill. Where’s the downside?”

Umbrella Schemes have little or nothing to do with zero hours contracts. Any perceived connection is the usual “deflection”, where we ended up seeing people like Miliband and even Corbyn thinking and preaching that it’s “Zero hours” that’s the evil - NOT “Tax Fiddling by the actual company administrators/management team”

The so-called “Westminster Expenses Scandal” was successfully kicked into touch… As was the Dolphin Square investigation, deflected this time onto the Celebrity crowd.
Current “Defections” include things like “Only Rich Jews need to be persecuted and trolled by the Hard Left”.
I would argue “Let’s have a look at the richest Champagne Socialists - starting with Tony Blair.” a policy which seems to have been dropped by Corbyn - once it was pointed out that he is a millionaire property owner in his own right. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

IR35 is the reason I packed in IT contracting and it will devastate the IT industry because most of my IT friends are getting contracts abroad.
