Worried to death about hgv medical

Hi all just looking for some advice. If I go to my gp for my medical do they just go of diagnosed things or can they make assumptions there and then from gp notes of symptoms? Hope this makes some kind of sense.

I don’t know the answer but if you’re worried there is no rule saying you have to use your gp. Likely to be cheaper if you don’t anyway

The DVLA medical requires the doctor to answer eight pages of questions on the D4 medical form about your health and then do a general physical examination.
It isn’t the doctor’s job to make a decision whether you are fit but if he finds anything of concern which might affect your safety to drive he would record that on the D4 form and then DVLA might write to your doctor for more information or require you to have some sort of test like an ECG.
In my experience it is very unusual for me to find anything which the driver doesn’t already know about. Occasionally we discover someone’s vision isn’t quite up to the required standard or the blood pressure is over the DVLA limits. Of course both of these problems can be fixed quite easily with glasses or tablets respectively.
Remember, DVLA are only interested in things which might affect your safety to drive.
Here are some useful addresses if you want to find out more about a particular medical condition which you’re worried about:
This is the page for downloading the DVLA D4 medical form so you can have a look at the questions the doctor will ask you: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/607177/d4-medical-examiner-report-for-a-lorry-or-bus-driving-licence.pdf

This is a link to Assessing Fitness to Drive: a Guide for Medical Professionals which is the DVLA’s official publication of their medical standards. Again, you can have a look in here for any medical conditions which you think might affect your licence. Some of the words are bit technical but you should be able to get the gist of most of it.
