can someone please tell me why, with a digi tacho,if you have more than 1 hour rest in one “sitting”,when you do a printout, why there is an asterix to the right of the printout.
it came up in a conversation with another driver last week,as he reckons he got pulled in off a tm once, and was told off for having more than 1 hour break as as far as analysis are concerned it is the end of your duty period for that day.we both reckon that is rot,but i pointed out to him the asterix when i take more than 1 hour break■■?.
so,i told him one of you knowlegeble ladies or gents would know the answer…
No idea mate - perhaps one of the others can help…
MIne does the same fella, no problem is there?

Does the asterisk only show when the break is over an hour I didn’t think it did
I don’t really know but I always assumed that the asterisk had something to do with the break resetting the driving time but I could be completely wrong

You won’t be surprised to know that you’re both right, it is rot or words to that effect
Either that or it’s incredibly inept analysis software, but I doubt that
I’ve just checked and you’re right the asterisk only shows for rest periods of at least one hour, still no idea why though.

could it be software for the AETR regs split daily rest ■■?
I always assumed it was for the same reason my old old hour guard records any breaks over 1h as a “long break” from the old split daily rest rules where a break over 1h counted towards the 4h you needed to then reduce your daily rest to 8h.
Of course with the new rules there is no significance of breaks over 1h any more.

yes tachograph,it does show an asterix for any breaks exactly 1hour or more than 1 hour, and another thing i"ve noticed(and yes i take my breaks correctly),at the totals at the bottom of the printouts(ie all of your period totals),whatever is shown for your break times is followed by a question mark■■?.is this normal?.
going back to the asterix,i dont think its been mentioned on my analysis report printouts,so im assuming all is well…
I have also noticed this. I think it’s a symbol to state you’re hanging it out too much and to get a move on!
As the Digi Tacho still works to the pre April 2007 rules on split daily rest, where you could have 3 periods of at least 1 hour with the last part being at least 8 hours, the asterix next to a break/rest of an hour or more shows a period which could count toward a split daily rest. These days that is only true if the period is at least 3 hours. That’s all it is, nothing to do with resetting the driving time or ending your day.
thank you for your replys guys, and thanks again coffeeholic for coming up trumps on this one.
